About

In early 2015, the Australian Government passed the Data Retention amendments to the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act. These amendments were designed to help law enforcement agencies have confidence about the kinds of data they can request and obtain from service providers to assist them with their investigations.

Unfortunately the legislation is poorly worded and difficult to interpret and has created a lot of work for service providers to implement.

Andrew Yager, the person behind this site, is the CEO of the Real World Group and has spent a lot of time thinking through the practical aspects of data retention – how to do it, what data to retain and what is important. This site aims to share some of this information with the Service Provider community.

It’s important to note that this site isn’t legal advice, and is Andrew’s own perspective. It’s also important to note that if you are looking at this site you aren’t going to find out how to write your Data Retention Implementation Plan; but you might find some details that help you work out how to go about it.

Real World provides a range of wholesale network aggregation and VISP services to Managed Service Providers and ISPs. They help create technically unique solutions and implementations for their clients that encompass networks, infrastructure and business processes and truly believe that business is about partnership and relationship.
